Description
This photograph is one I took of an old abandoned homeplace out in the country. I took it through the fence showing that we were "Peeking In At The Past". We are getting a glimpse of what USED TO BE. A life that used to be this house. This house used to have a story. As they say, "if only the walls could talk'....then maybe we would know who lived here, why they left and what their story was. Now, though, we see a home about to fall in. We see a home that long since needed a new spiffy coat or two of paint. There are gaping holes in the walls and busted out boards. There are tattered old antique curtains or possibly sheets hanging in shreds in the windows. I don't see a door. The weeds are grown up and it is in need of a good mowing and cleaning. Its foundation actually doesn't look level anymore. It is no longer shelter, letting in the cold, the rain and the insects. It no longer serves as protection for a family.
In short, it is just another abandoned structure, a relic, a rustic old building....that once housed laughter, and possibly a family, loved ones, children laughing and playing in the fenced grounds and maybe even pets in the house or the yard. It once thrived. Now, as Rosemary Clooney sang in the old song..."This Ole House"
"This ole house once knew his children
This ole house once knew his wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now he trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about."
When you look at a shabby old house from that perspective it becomes interesting again and peeks your curiosity. But we will never know.
That is one of the great beauties of photography. A picture can preserve what life and wear and tear can't.

THESE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS! IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN ROUGH LIVING BUT WE ALL WERE TAUGHT GOOD PRINCIPLES, MORALS AND HOW TO RESPECT OUR ELDERS, SOMETHING I DON'T SEE THAT MUCH OF TODAY! LES (F/V)

Thank you Les! And you are right....that is definitely a problem in this world today!
