Description
"Red Asiatic Lilly" is a gorgeous flower with a deep red, rich color. Their light, heavenly fragrance makes the Lilies indispensable in every garden.
Lilies, will bring beauty, color and fragrance to your garden for many years; they only require you to plant them in the right place and provide for their simple needs. Choose a well-drained location with at least half a day of sunshine. If it’s too shady, the stems will stretch and lean towards the sun; trumpet lilies are the most shade sensitive. Lilies love full sun, as long as the bulbs are deep enough to keep cool when temperatures soar. They also enjoy a mulch.
Look for a spot that is the first to dry out after rain. Lilies can be bothered by botrytis, a fungus that spots the leaves in prolonged cool, wet weather. This should not be a problem in the home garden if you provide for good air circulation and space the plants so that leaves can dry out easily after rain. If you do see brown spots on the leaves, use any fungicide recommended for roses.
I read that Lilies love growing in containers, as mine are! They come in a wide variety of heights and sizes and can be planted alone or with companion plants. They work beautifully on decks and patios, and are wonderful in spaces large or small. If your garden is prone to underground animals that love the sweet taste of bulbs, containers are a great way to thwart them so that you can enjoy more lilies!
Lilies in containers have most of the same requirements as lilies in the garden: well-drained soil, half a day (or more) of sun, and sufficient watering.
Protect your container and the bulbs within from severe winter conditions and rapid freezing/thawing.
Asiatic Lilies have blooms that face upward from the center. Asiatic lillies are also perfect for the wildlife friendly garden as butterflies love them. The names lily is applied to many plants, but "true lilies" belong to the genus Lilium. There's a great deal of variety when choosing lilies. There are 9 different Divisions of lilies: short, tall, swept-back, upright, trumpet, speckled or blushed in colors from pure white to blood red and almost everything in between. What they all share is a certain elegance of form and sweetness of fragrance that have made lilies regal flowers in the garden. Asiatics make a great cut flower because of their extremely strong stems. Asiatic lilies root above the bulb, along the stem, and can be planted deeper than other lilies. This makes them even hardier and easier to grow.
