Description
This turkey at a wildlife park was quite the sociable bird. When he saw us come near the fence to see his beautiful colors, he came to the fence and strutted and turned round and round, as if he was modeling for us. I looked on the internet to read a little about turkeys and found this. "Turkeys are highly social and become very distressed when isolated. Young birds perform spontaneous, frivolous running ('frolicking') which has all the appearance of play. Commercial turkeys show a wide diversity of behaviours including 'comfort' behaviours such as wing-flapping, feather ruffling, leg stretching and dust-bathing." We joked that he was trying to impress us in fear of becoming another Thanksgiving Day main course statistic! :)
