"An American Farmer" is a photograph that my husband shot out in the country of a beautiful spot of land, with a big pond out in the foreground, horses, a big red barn, and lots of nice East Texas shade trees. It looked like such a relaxing place to be....to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
I found the sweetest poem about the American Farmer, a man I would imagine would have a place like this. In my mind, I can see an older gentleman, who has worked this farm all his life and is proud to think that he can hand down his heritage, this peaceful oasis, to his children. An older man, who would dress in blue jean overalls, a flannel shirt and an old hat. A man, who in the afternoon, after his chores, would sit by that lake and catch a mess of fish. His wife would cook them up for supper and then he would retire with a cold glass of iced tea on the wrap-around front porch and watch the fireflies dancing in the night sky.
The description/poem about him went like this--
"He never finished school, but he finished every job he ever started.
He grew his own food, not because it was "the new way", but because it was "the only way."
He lived through times when money and food was sparse, but his kids never missed a meal...but he did.
He's seen droughts, tornadoes, floods, fires and wind destroy his farm, but he never gave up.
If he had two dollars to his name, he would give it to you, if you were in need.
He's a grandfather, father, uncle, brother and friend. An American Farmer."
