Description
"Apache Blessing" is a photograph I shot of the sun setting behind the clouds, shining through and glowing as night is beginning. I added the text that follows--
--May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know it's beauty all the days of your life.--
I tried to verify if this was truly a blessing from an Apache Indian tribe and could not find it. There are some Indian blessings that have been traced back to movies or books and were not really Indian blessings at all, even though they sounded like them. One of those being the Apache Wedding Blessing. It was traced back to a Hollywood movie, Broken Arrow. It was written for the 1947 Western novel Blood Brother by Elliott Arnold.
To me, the saying, or blessing is beautiful and it doesn't matter if it was spoken by an Indian or not. I tagged it Apache Blessing, because that is how people identify this quote. But the wonderful thoughts that are included are the reasons I like it. The sun rising in the mornings does renew our spirit and awaken us to a new day with new, fresh possibilities. What bothered us the previous day or night before can all but disappear by the light of a brand new day.
The softness of the glowing moon in the sky can calm a frazzled mind and de-stress a person. It is relaxing and nice to sit outside under the glow of the moon and reflect, meditate and pray. It is also often called the "lover's moon."
A good rainfall can seem to wash away our worries, just as the blessing suggests. The air smells clean and fresh and that alone can help your mind to readjust and worries to seem more trivial. The breeze seems to whisper to us that we are stronger than we think, as it carries our troubles away from us. Nature has a strong influence on us and going outside, enjoying that nature, taking a walk, sitting on the porch and enjoying the evening can do a world of good for anyone. Sometimes we get so busy that we NEVER stop to do this. Stop to "smell the roses" so to speak. But we need to make that a habit. Enjoying the beauty that God has provided for us. He daily supplies us with plenty of natural, awesome, sights, sounds, and experiences. We just need to stop long enough to experience them.
I think that is one of the main reasons I love photography so much. It makes us "stop to smell (and photograph) the roses"! We stop to drink in the glories of our world and hopefully, we both are learning a new appreciation for God's gift.
