Description
Azalea Beauty was shot from a beautiful bush of luscious hot pink azaleas. Azaleas are one of my favorite flowers. Judge Solomon Azaleas are my choice.
‘Judge Solomon’ is in the Southern Indian or Indica group of Azaleas. Their Scientific Name is Rhododendron indicum 'Judge Solomon'.
Judge Solomon Azalea is one of the best of the sun and heat-tolerant evergreen Southern India Azaleas. It grows more rapidly than other types of azaleas to 8' tall with an equal spread. These Azaleas have an upright growth habit and are the best choice for a high light area. As with most other azaleas this one prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil. It will tolerate full sun but, like most other azaleas, will appreciate some shade during the hottest part of the day.
This is a popular azalea but should not be planted in places that receive an abundance of direct afternoon sun because the flowers can bleach badly. That being said, some dappled sun or shade during the hottest part of summer afternoons would be appreciated.
The flower color is a pinkish-blue to rosy-pink, somewhat similar to the 'Formosa' azalea. This azalea grows large so pruning may be needed periodically. This foliage of azaleas is generally not eaten by deer, which is a good thing to know if you live outside the big city.
Judge Solomon Azalea is most useful as a natural hedge or in small to large groupings in landscape beds. Performs exceptionally well under tall pine trees. They do so well in East Texas among our many pine trees. They are also useful in home foundation plantings, espalier (grown flat against a wall), or "limbed up" to be a small tree for containers or garden beds.
