Description
In all the hustle and bustle of this busy, busy life, we spend a large part of each day worrying about what will happen with this, what will we do about that, what will we wear, drink, or eat, what does someone think about us, or does someone care at all. I know, I am guilty too of this same type of worry. But then, sometimes I stop, as I should, and remember that God tells us in the Bible not to worry like that!
In Matthew 6:25-26, He says, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" And then once again, I remind myself that the God who made these birds to be so carefree, also made us! He is letting us know that anxiety and restlessness over things of this nature is unfruitful and unnecessary. He wants us to look to Him for our needs and for our comfort and solace. Of course, He does not want us to sit and do nothing to take care of ourselves....the birds don't....they are constantly out looking for food....and their Maker provides. I believe that He always will for us too! Of course, there is a difference between worry and concern and I liked something I heard once, "Worry fears the worse and tries to control the future, whereas godly concern hopes for the best and redeems the future." Our focus should not be on fretting and trying to gather more and more in fearfulness.
And isn't it funny that the things we worry the most about, so many times, turn out to be absolutely NOTHING worth worrying about. They usually resolve themselves. Then I feel silly that I worried at all. If only, this verse would ALWAYS pop into my head and I would trust more! I think that might be a New Year's resolution there! :)
