Description
This photo was taken at the Athens Christmas Park Land of Lights theme park. It was opened in 1998 and is family owned and operated. They have grown every year and have become a family tradition for Christmas festivities every year. It is located on N.W. Loop 7 in the East Texas city of Athens. The park is more than 1 mile long and has over 4 million lights, including more than 50 different musical scenes and 50 motion controlled lighted scenes in addition to 7 tunnels and 10 arches, and 1500 wood cutouts. They have so many wonderful lighted displays that are designed and constructed by the owners. This house features two life size Rock N Roll characters known as The Blues Brothers. A lighted Christmas tree is in the showcase with them. They are in a famous stance from their 1980 musical comedy film by the same name..."Blues Brothers."
The film was directed by John Landis and starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as "Joliet" Jake and Elwood Blues, characters developed from a musical sketch on the NBC variety series Saturday Night Live. It features musical numbers by R&B, soul, and blues singers James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker. The film is set in and around Chicago, Illinois.
The story is a tale of redemption for paroled convict Jake (Belushi) and his brother Elwood (Aykroyd), who take on "a mission from God" to save from foreclosure the Catholic orphanage in which they grew up. To do so they must reunite their rhythm and blues band, The Blues Brothers, and organize a performance to earn $5,000 to pay the tax assessor. Along the way they are targeted by a destructive "mystery woman," Neo-Nazis, and a country and western band—all while being relentlessly pursued by the police.
The duo were famous for their attire--black suits, skinny ties, Ray-Ban sunglasses and Timex digital watches. On March 5, 1982, John Belushi died in Hollywood of an accidental overdose of heroin and cocaine.
The Blues Brothers continue to be a legend in the history of blues music, as well as the history of Hollywood. There are countless Blues Brothers fans around the world, and also a large number of Blues Brothers tribute shows are appearing all over the globe. It is a musical phenomenon that will never die.
