Description
Buffy was my husband's dog when we married. He had raised her from a puppy, having also had her parents as pets. She wasn't a pure breed. But she was such a pretty thing, mostly black with tan and beige mixed in, an adorable face and the cutest tan patch on her chest and feet.
Buffy was such a sweet-natured dog. She always greeted you with her eyes and her whole body, wagging her tail and excitedly dancing about. You knew she was so happy to see you. I say "was" because Buffy just suddenly passed away a few months back. We don't know what happened to her, we assume old age. She had been playing just the day before around our fenced in back yard.
Buffy had one litter of puppies, of which we kept two. It was funny to watch Buffy with her puppies. That gentle, sweet dog could be very bossy. Our other two dogs soon found out not to try to get around Buffy when her puppies were eating. She would put them in their place very quickly! She was very protective of her babies and I loved seeing that.
But most of all, I loved watching Buffy play with her puppies. She tussled with them, chased them around, and lovingly snipped at them. They had such a good time together. She taught them to be good guard dogs, just like she was. She always let us know when something was outside that shouldn't be, human or animal.
But my favorite thing about Buffy was to watch her get a stick or an old, empty, aluminum plate from her food in her mouth and prance around the back yard. She would hold her body in such a proud stance, head up and start to prance. What was so funny was that she would go round and round the same trail, repetitively. She finally wore a bare spot in the grass from all her prancing. She could do it for a long time, while we watched her and giggled. I never understood how that was so much fun to her, but it seemed to have been! Buffy, rest in peace, you were a sweet, "Faithful Companion" and we miss you still.
