Description
This interesting water tower and windmill are located near the Grapevine Vintage Railroad and Grapevine Railroad Depot in a beautiful old historic area of downtown Grapevine, Texas. The water tower and windmill looks as if it was probably restored but may have had an original one in this area. There is a free history museum in the Grapevine Depot.
The information for Grapevine lists that the "Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include "Puffy" the 1896 Steam locomotive and oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive. Passengers enjoy riding in authentic 1920s and 1930s Victorian - style coaches as they take a step back in time and experience train travel as it was in the glory days of the expanding West. Pull into the Fort Worth Stockyards Station and you'll be right in the middle of the Stockyards National Historic District where the Old West comes alive."
The city of Grapevine, Texas is known as the "Christmas Capital of Texas" so it is only fitting that during the holiday festivities, the vintage railroad turns into the Polar Express. Needless to say, that is a very popular train ride with children of all ages. "The Polar Express" was a highly loved 2004 motion capture computer-animated fantasy film based on the children's book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg. The film stars Daryl Sabara, Nona Gaye, Jimmy Bennett, and Eddie Deezen, with Tom Hanks in six distinct roles. The Polar Express train rides during the holidays is patterned after the movie.
