Description
These two little "kids" as baby goats are known, are just too adorable! My husband took this precious photo of them cuddled up! They just kept snuggling with each other. I thought it would be fun to have them to snuggle and play with. I started looking, just for kicks (and this description), to see what all they required. This is what I found.
"A goat doesn't require too much. They need a fellow goat buddy for company. They need basic shelter that is free of drafts where they can get out of the bad weather. Goats require hay & room to run & play, along with good fences. Only some goats require goat grain. We highly recommend that goats have access to goat minerals to ensure they grow well & maintain their good health. Goats LOVE to play, so we suggest things like secure stumps, picnic tables, kids plastic play structures, or other fun things for them to play on. You will definitely find much more joy in your goats if they are happy & playing. A goat is not a good playmate for a dog, it needs a fellow goat to play with. They are truly herd animals and must have another goat to keep them mentally & physically healthy.
A buck is a male goat that is capable of breeding & producing offspring. It was sort of funny....one article said a buck goat STINKS... they have glands in their bodies that produce a VERY stinky odor, which *apparently* attracts the female goats. They also urinate proficiently, usually spraying all over their chin, belly, and legs, in hopes of attracting the lady goats. :-) Bucks are NOT for the faint-of-heart! Ha.
A doe is a female goat that can produce offspring & milk too. It said it is not difficult to care for a goat, but like any animal, a goat does require care. A goat will typically live about 10-15 years. They must be given fresh food & water daily. Preferably have daily attention. They must have their hooves trimmed every 6-8 weeks. They usually require at least 1 annual vaccination to prevent Tetanus.
Keep in mind, that a goat with horns is more difficult to sell and can cause injuries. The horns can not only be dangerous and hurtful to you, but also to the other "kids" and possibly to themselves.
Most articles say that a friendly goat is usually played with and petted often by their human owners. They need to be familiar with their owners and develop a relationship with them.
And when they are babies, like these two, they can be a lot of FUN! They play, frolick, tease each other, and cuddle with you.
