Description
I took this photograph in Dallas, Texas of a beautiful steeple atop the sanctuary of Park Cities Baptist Church, which was built in 1956. The landmark steeple-clock is located on Northwest Highway near Preston Road. It is extremely tall and houses a 28 Bell Carrillon. The bells play several times throughout the day. Unless you are really oblivious, there is almost NO way you can drive through that section of Dallas without noticing that massive red church building and that gorgeous steeple. But what the average person may not NOTICE are the words printed on each of the large clocks that face every direction from the sides of the steeple. I didn't when I took the photo. Under the huge clock numbers, under the massive clock hands, are the words "Night Cometh." Night cometh? Into every life, dark times come. Times that can turn your life upside down.
In the Bible in the book of Psalm 31:14,15, it says
But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
"My times are in your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me."
Our faith is our shield against hard times, against the battles of life, and against our enemies. When the going gets rough, and the NIGHT COMETH, we should look to God. We should not be a fair weather believer, but believe when times are not what we think they should be. We should trust that He is the only one who can deliver us from any evil or sad times that befall us. God should be our comfort as we say "I trust in you, Oh Lord. You are my God. My times are in Your hand" ....even when the "Night Cometh."
I found this statement from the church officials at Park Cities Baptist Church. It says...."On the clock tower of our church steeple is printed the words, “Night Cometh.” Occasionally someone will call our switchboard to ask why. The warning comes from Jesus’ statement to his followers: “As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4). We have only today to be faithful to our Father."
