Description
In this photograph our young orange tabby cat, Copper Kitty, is being shown a new toy....a stuffed lion we called Leo. And as you can see, there is an "Obvious Apprehension to the New Toy". You know cats, they have to act so nonchalant about everything, as if they don't really care. Ha. David, my hubby, is trying to make Copper cozy up to the stuffed Leo and he wants no part of it.
At first, anyway. You see, Copper's first toy was a small stuffed kitty that looked almost just like him. From the very start, Copper loved "Kitten". He wrestled with Kitten, threw Kitten around, and chewed on Kitten. Now, poor Kitten looks so threadbare and faded. He finally got thrown to the side and almost forgotten. So, remembering how much fun we had watching our four legged friend playing with his little four legged friend, we got him a new friend. It took a few days of dangling him from a rope and swinging Leo gently back and forth in front of Copper and of course, he would swing at him with his paws, for him to finally accept him and begin to play with him on his own.
Since Copper is about three years old now, he isn't into playing with his cat toys as much as he once was. Oh, he still has a very distinct personality and we still laugh and get such a kick out of playing with him. But occasionally, he and Leo tussle about. Sometimes, we still catch him prancing into the room with Leo's leg in his mouth, Leo, swinging to and fro. But every time I see this photograph, I have to laugh at the look on Copper's face and his expression, as if to say, "Daddy, why do you keep trying to force me to like this thing? Grrrrrr..." And then I am reminded that our little baby, our faithful pet, is growing up. Happily, he is becoming more loving and settled. Also, thankfully! Ha! Some days, I thought I would pull my hair out when he was young....and sometimes I still feel that way. But I can't help it, this little tabby cat, whose hair is the same color, almost, as mine, has stolen my heart.

Thank you Sandra de Ortiz for featuring our Copper Kitty's photograph in our group Memories and Nostalgia's homepage. I smile whenever I see this photo. Copper is too funny!
