Description
This beautiful old red barn is certainly "Past Its Prime"! My good friend first told me about this barn in our East Texas area months ago when she moved to her new home in the country. She had seen this beautiful old rustic, red barn and was quick to let me know that I needed to go photograph it. She knows how much I love old barns and that I take photographs of them whenever I can! What I am not sure of is IF she told me that I needed to go photograph it IMMEDIATELY! LOL
Well, life got busy and I let that old barn slip my mind and by the time I remembered about the barn, it was almost too late. She said quite a bit of the barn had already fallen in and she was afraid it wasn't still standing. But when I picked her up and we arrived at the spot, it was, for the most part, still standing, although we discussed that it was certainly past its prime or past its glory days.
I am sure it was once a beautiful, new red barn that someone was very proud of! But circumstances of life, etc caused it to go into near ruins. I really hate to see something like that, but I still think it is a beautiful old barn, now a relic. A relic is described as an object surviving from an earlier time, especially one of historical or sentimental interest. It is also defined further as a surviving memorial of something past or an object having interest by reason of its age or its association with the past. This barn is a relic in every sense of those descriptions as we wonder who used to use it, what all did it hold -- hay, equipment, animals, etc? Why did the owner leave it to fall apart? We wonder how old it truly is and how long it has occupied this ground. Did several generations of a certain family play around inside this old structure? Did children play hide and seek behind the hay bales? Did a young couple go out there to sneak a kiss and be alone for a few minutes? Was a new foal brought into this world in this barn? Back in the day, did a brand spanking new tractor make its home within these walls? I guess I am lucky that I got this shot because by the time I remembered it, it may have already fallen in and I could have been too late. I am glad, though, that I got to capture this photograph before it was TOTALLY Past Its Prime! That, as always, is one of the greatest joys of photography....to be able to preserve a moment in time, or a beautiful old relic, a special event or a loved one's face....to enjoy for years to come.
