Description
This scene is just one of the beautiful glimpses you can have while on one of this state's wonderful highways. The "Scenic Byway in Alaska" is a sight to behold. This particular photograph was taken in July, but as you see, in the high mountains, there is still snow on the mountains and of course, glaciers. From the water to the mountains, to the flowers, the glaciers, the wildlife, and many other attractions, Alaska is a wonderful journey to take! It is a place I always was fascinated with, but never thought I would get the opportunity to visit. But this journey took us to this gorgeous state to see my husband's daughter and family, who are stationed there in the service. We had a wonderful time visiting them and seeing the sites of a fascinating place.
The Alaska Scenic Byways Program is a program designated by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities that is used to recognize and protect the most scenic, historic, or recreational highways located in the U.S. State of Alaska. The program includes National Scenic Byways, National Forest Scenic Byways, both designated by the federal government, and Alaska Scenic Byways, which are designated by the state.
This photograph was taken as we traveled along the Seward Highway. It is so breathtaking to see the scenery on all sides as you go along. Seward Highway showcases the natural beauty of south-central Alaska between Anchorage and Seward. From jagged peaks and alpine meadows to breathtaking fjords and crystal lakes, you will find a concentrated series of diverse landscapes and experiences. You might see sights such as Beluga whales or dog teams in the winter or a wild animal roaming the byways or water falling down from the massive rocks on the side of the road. It is almost certain you will see wildflowers in the summer as we did, especially my favorite, the Alaskan Fireweed. On this Scenic Byway, you will probably also see the trains of the Alaska Railroad as they make daily trips running almost adjacent to the highway itself. Although, we did not get to see it all, we saw Anchorage, Seward, Denali and some small surrounding towns. But if you ever get the chance, it is a journey of a lifetime to visit the great state of Alaska.

Kathy, This is a fantastic photo showing the raw beauty of Alaska. Great job at capturing all of the remarkable details in the foreground and the background. Love the various shades of blue in this photo from the water to the deep dark blue in the mountains to the lighter blue where the snow is and of course the blue sky. Remarkable sky shot and that mountain scene makes me want to be right there and capture a couple of photos myself. Excellent job, voted, Tweet, Google and FB promote along with selecting this photo as my Pick of the Day in The Art Shoppe Cafe group
