Description
My husband recently went camping for the second time at a popular Texas State Park. On this particular camping trip, there was a little bit of unease about what the weather was going to do. First there was a prediction of a hurricane near the Gulf. But, as it went, Tropical Storm Bill ended up a tropical cyclone that produced very widespread rainfall all across East Texas, West Louisiana and Oklahoma. My husband and his son watched the weather for days, as it stormed pretty heavy on us, not knowing whether their trip would reach fruition or not. The weathermen talked about it weakening, then would say it had strengthened a little. I am pretty sure there were some fervent prayers going on between the two of them, as they both were looking forward to their 3 day get away.
On June 17, Bill was downgraded to tropical depression intensity, though it maintained an organized structure, so they still waited to hear. The next day, Bill had rapidly deteriorated as it moved northeast. Prayers were answered and the system's strength had slowly weakened. The trip was on!
It was pretty decent weather on the way to their campgrounds, with only some circulation of the wind and a small thundershower, followed by a rainbow.
That first evening, they watched the water from the shoreline, white capping out on the lake, and set up camp in a screened sheltered camping area, taking precautions.
David took this photograph the second day, as they watched the sun set in the west. It's always glorious to see the sun set in the sky from the day, but even more exciting as they stood watching nature unfold on the lake right in front of them. Across the shore, you can see a "Storm On The Horizon". They could tell that rain was imminent in the storm cloud. David looked at his phone weather app and saw the forecast of the storm. But, once again, God was on their side it seemed, and as the sun continued to go down and the storm tried to move closer to them, it dissipated and fell apart. The evening and the camping went on as planned....but for these two weather (and camping) enthusiasts, their Father's Day camping trip was saved!
