Description
"When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have a 1000 reasons to smile." "When you see a friend without a smile, give him one of yours." "Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart."
A smile is a facial expression formed by flexing the muscles near both ends of the mouth and by flexing muscles throughout the mouth. Some smiles include contraction of the muscles at the corner of the eyes. Among humans, it is an expression denoting pleasure, sociability, happiness, or amusement, but can also be an involuntary expression of anxiety, in which case it is known as a grimace. Smiling is something that is understood by everyone despite culture, race, or religion; it is internationally known. Cross-cultural studies have shown that smiling is a means of communication throughout the world. The smile is a universal language understood by all. A smile can also be spontaneous or artificial. I saw one quote that said, "A bland smile is like a green light at an intersection, it feels good when you get one, but you forget it the moment you're past it." But I prefer this quote, "A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside. " People know when your smile is not genuine or is evil looking, such as the one on my Smiling Alligator! :) He probably smiles before he eats you! Ha
But a smile can end so much sadness and discomfort if you will only try it! One Size Fits All and one smile can enhance any mood, all by itself. Leo Buscaglia said "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around". You never know how much that person that you just smiled at may have NEEDED that smile. And it was free to you, a gift to give to another. “Peace begins with a smile.” said Mother Teresa.
A smile tends to convey respect, patience, empathy, hospitality and compassion. For example, when an employee smiles at a stressed customer, and exhibits excellent listening skills, most of the time, there is a report of total satisfaction. Research also reports that people receive more help when they smile. Even the smile of a stranger produces more “Good Samaritan” effects on the receiver. Even Dr. Seuss stressed the importance of a smile when he said “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” Smiling can make even the worst hurts and disappointments in life seem a little less painful. So don't forget, "A smile is happiness you'll find right under your nose."
