Artist's Description

This pair of young doe are having a Dinner Playdate...a little munching on what green grass they can find in January and a little frolicking and playing in the field. As you can see, the green grass was sparse.
For many people deer hunting is the highlight of the fall and winter seasons. Texas is home to an estimated 3.6 million white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), and we all delight in getting to see them in the wild, playing, posing, or whatever they are doing. They are as curious about us as we are about them I think. We have had them stop so many times and listen to us talk to them, sometimes for a good while, before something spooks them and they sprint off into the woods. These two seemed to be oblivious to us. White-tailed deer can be recognized by their white bottomed tail used as a warning flag. Large trees and bushes provide protection from the elements and from humans.

He was such a wonderful guy and I feel blessed that God chose me to be his mom. Reeling from his death, I sought some sort of diversion, needing to get my mind focused on anything besides my great loss. After a bad fall that resulted in surgery, I was recuperating at home and stir crazy. My husband took me out for drives in the country. We bought a new digital camera...
