Description
The Emancipation Oak is a symbol of freedom and one of the honored treasures of Hampton, Virginia. It is where the Virginia Peninsula's black community met to hear the reading of President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. It stands proud, full-bodied and towering near the entrance of the Hampton University campus.
