Artist's Description
A lone puffin stands on a rock ledge in the Kenai Fjords National Park. There are two types of puffins found in Alaska--the Horned Puffin and the Tufted Puffin. They are commonly recognized by the large white breast, yellow beak and orange feet. In the summer months, small black horns are over the eyes of the Horned Puffin. The Tufted Puffin, on the other hand, has tufts of feathers that curl back from each side of puffin's head. They can both be found in the open seas of Alaska and generally, they only go inland to nest. During nesting, they burrow 3 to 4 feet below the surface of cliff walls or sleep slopes. Puffins can dive underwater for up to one minute. They are not the best swimmers or fliers, as they use their wings to propel them forward and their feet like rudders to steer them back and forth.

After a bad fall that resulted in surgery, I was recuperating at home and stir crazy. My husband took me out for drives in the country. We bought a new digital camera...
