I'm sure in the life of this barn, there have been better days! I just had to get a photo. I like pictures of old barns...sometimes the rustier the better! The rusted pieces of tin just nailed across the front makes me think there was possibly storm damage that needed to be covered up or patched. Some limbs had fallen and were also rotting in the weather. Nevertheless, you can tell the boards are rotting away and it is not the shelter it once was. It may not be used at all anymore. It was in the fall and the leaves were not plentiful on the trees, so it made the old barn look even more barren to us.
I took this shot in Louisiana while my husband, his sister and I were out for an afternoon drive. We all had our cameras and were ready to shoot anything we found interesting. We have done this several times and we always have fun! It makes for some great laughs just trying to see what we can "spot" next. But with three pairs of eyes, we ought to find something, right...
I have always loved to take pictures. My first job, at age 16, was receptionist for our local newspaper, but the owners soon included me in taking photos, darkroom and writing articles. Years later, a terrible event in my personal life brought back a love of taking photos that I had not been pursuing to any great extent. My only child passed away at the age of 22. He was such a wonderful guy and I feel blessed that God chose me to be his mom. Reeling from his death, I sought some sort of diversion, needing to get my mind focused on anything besides my great loss. After a bad fall that resulted in surgery, I was recuperating at home and stir crazy. My husband took me out for drives in the country. We bought a new digital camera...

Dereliction at its very best, Kathy! Love the limbs down, and the tree and the old weathered boards on the building, and one can see the renovation with the metal ribbing plates on the front! LOL Love this shot! fave and vote
