Like any animal, deer require food and shelter-fuel for the complex machinery of their bodies, and a place to rest and hide from predators and weather. We got a shot of this beautiful animal, not with a gun but with our camera, "almost" hiding, but checking us out for sure! Thus, the name, of the photograph "Deer Almost in Hiding". Deer are browsers and browsers eat brush and trees, which also provide shelter or, as hunters call it, cover for the animals. During wet, mild weather deer eat grasses, forbs, or any other easily digestible green growth available. Farm crops supplement this natural diet, but farms don't exist everywhere in North America, and crops aren't available year-round.

I have always loved to take pictures. My first job, at age 16, was receptionist for our local newspaper, but the owners soon included me in taking photos, darkroom and writing articles. Years later, a terrible event in my personal life brought back a love of taking photos that I had not been pursuing to any great extent. My only child passed away at the age of 22. He was such a wonderful guy and I feel blessed that God chose me to be his mom. Reeling from his death, I sought some sort of diversion, needing to get my mind focused on anything besides my great loss.
