Dynasty Red Flowering Cabbage are so pretty to me! They are ornamental flowers. Growing in rosette form these can look like a grand rose bloom on the ground, with colors of pink, rose, green, or white in combination. The inner leaves are ruffly and petal-like surrounded what would look like guard petals…but they are all the leaves of this fantasy plant. Dynasty Series are red, or white; with semi-waved leaves, they have round leaf form rather like giant roses.
Can you eat flowering cabbages and kale? Technically yes, but they don’t taste as good as the kind grown for the table. They are perfectly fine for a pretty garnish, though.The fancy-leaved cousins of our familiar vegetables make a bold statement in the cool season garden. As we said, the ornamental forms can be edible, too, but the cabbage is bitter, and when the white, pink, red, and purple leaves are cooked, they turn an unappetizing gray. I have always loved to take pictures. My first job, at age 16, was receptionist for our local newspaper, but the owners soon included me in taking photos, darkroom and writing articles. Years later, a terrible event in my personal life brought back a love of taking photos that I had not been pursuing to any great extent. My only child passed away at the age of 22. He was such a wonderful guy and I feel blessed that God chose me to be his mom. Reeling from his death, I sought some sort of diversion, needing to get my mind focused on anything besides my great loss. After a bad fall that resulted in surgery, I was recuperating at home and stir crazy. My husband took me out for drives in the country. We bought a new digital camera...
