David took this interesting photo when we visited this notable monument for the first time, with just a different perspective of looking toward this sky. The phrase that "prayers are lifted up" seems fitting to title this piece.
The Prayer Tower and Gardens is a beautiful, tranquil place, even though it is located in the middle of downtown Pittsburg, Texas. The Prayer Tower, a gift to the city from businessman Bo Pilgrim, features four Paccard bells from France and a chapel that never closes. The tower is made of Indiana limestone with a Vermont slate roof. It is beautifully landscaped with a gurgling fountain, a life-size bronze statue showing Jesus washing Peter's feet, and a variety of flowers and plants year round. The bells chime and play hymns on the hour. It has three long pews and a prayer altar inside the peaceful setting. Four stunning stained glass windows depict various scenes in the life of Jesus.
I have always loved to take pictures. My first job, at age 16, was receptionist for our local newspaper, but the owners soon included me in taking photos, darkroom and writing articles. Years later, a terrible event in my personal life brought back a love of taking photos that I had not been pursuing to any great extent. My only child passed away at the age of 22. He was such a wonderful guy and I feel blessed that God chose me to be his mom. Reeling from his death, I sought some sort of diversion, needing to get my mind focused on anything besides my great loss. After a bad fall that resulted in surgery, I was recuperating at home and stir crazy. My husband took me out for drives in the country. We bought a new digital camera...
