Description
It was early in the day when we shot this gorgeous sunflower and the dew was still on its bright yellow petals. The sun was up and the glow from its warm rays was just about to dry the tiny water droplets up. Sunflowers are an attractive ornamental addition to any garden, attracting both birds and butterflies. Their amazing presence and beauty will be a great enjoyment to you.
Sunflowers say “summer” like no other plant. Heliotropic, they direct their growth in response to sunlight! The flower slowly moves to face the warmth of the sun. Sunflowers are Native to North America, sunflowers are heat-tolerant, resistant to pests, and beautiful. You can even harvest them for seed.
I didn't know that sunflowers come in so many varieties. Sunflowers are available in sizes ranging from 2-foot dwarfs to 16-foot giants and in colors from white to deep burgundy and the most popular bright yellow. If you want a crop of seeds to eat, look for the traditional taller varieties that are designated producers of edible seeds.
