Description
"Flowers Are A Bit of Heaven on Earth" is a photograph I took of some beautiful, very colorful wildflowers growing around a old, weathered pole. It was as if as the saying says those flowers were placed there as a bit of Heaven on this Earth. Flowers blooming there were a way to cheer the viewer, lift their spirits and calm their senses.
One of my favorite second jobs as a teenager was delivering flowers. As a student, I had limited hours that I could work to make extra money. I worked an evening shift at a local Gibson's Discount Store in the camera department. And right after school and on Saturdays I also delivered flowers. Delivering flowers is a happy job....one of the happiest I've ever had. Even though you are not the gifter of the beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements, people treat you as if you are. The real gifter is not there, so you are the recipient of the surprised expressions, the oohs and the awws, and the thank you's. Some even hug you. They thank you profusely as if you paid for them yourself. I always LOVED to see someone's face as I said "These are for you!"
I only had ONE TIME when someone got really upset to find out they had been delivered a bouquet of flowers. The woman had apparently had a very bad argument/fight with her hubby and he sent the flowers to apologize, but this lady was NOT ACCEPTING THEM FOR ANYTHING. She shoved them back at me VERY RUDELY and told me to give them to someone else! She was not taking them! At a loss, I took them back to the store and let the owner deal with them.
But even previous Rutgers University research studies conducted found that flowers normally always create instant delight and happiness, and increase enjoyment and life satisfaction. Specifically, upon receiving a gift of flowers, the female study participants responded with true smiles and reported positive moods that lasted for days. The presence of flowers also led to increased contact with family and friends.
“Flowers have evolved to activate positive emotional responses from people,” says Haviland-Jones. “Each bloom has the potential to put a smile on our face and sway our opinion of a friend, colleague or loved one. That’s powerful.”
But for the most part, flowers delivered, flowers randomly in a field, or floral plantings in a beautiful garden are a wonderful gift from our loving God. There are not many people that can pass an exquisite bloom and not notice its beauty, or stop to smell its delicious fragrance. And if they do NOT, then shame on them....for they need to definitely STOP AND SMELL THE FLOWERS.
